On Saturday, December 16, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2600 block of Dewdney Avenue for the report of a weapons offence.
Information received was that a taxi-cab driver had picked up a male and female fare. On the way to the destination, the male revealed a hatchet and threatened the taxicab driver. The taxicab driver pulled over next to a coworker’s stationary taxicab and exited the vehicle. The second taxicab driver got out of his vehicle and ordered the male and female suspects to leave the area. The male suspect threated him with his hatchet. An altercation ensued and one of the drivers struck the hand of the suspect with a bat, causing him to drop the hatchet. Both suspects fled the scene. Police quickly located the male suspect at a nearby restaurant and he was taken into custody without further incident.
As a result of this investigation, 51 year-old Richard DUCHARME is charged with:
- Assault With a Weapon [CC 267(A)].
DURCHARME will make his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Court on January 25, 2024, at 9:30 a.m.
