A male youth has been charged after multiple bear mace incidents were reported early this morning.
On Thursday, September 7, 2023 at approximately 1:40 a.m. police were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Halifax Street N for a report of a weapons offence. Early information provided to police stated that a person had been bear sprayed through an open window while sleeping. When police arrived, they located a ladder leaned up against the residence under the window.
While police were in the area investigating, officers located a vehicle that had its doors open and smelled of bear mace. Members of the Canine Unit attended and during the course of their investigation, the Canine Unit located a second vehicle, in the 100 block of St. John Street N, that had its doors open and smelled of bear mace. Police spoke with nearby homeowners, who reported that bear mace was sprayed into the open windows of their home. It is believed the suspect was not known to the victims in either bear mace incident.
As a result of work by the Canine Unit, a suspect male was located in the 100 block of St. John Street N. He was taken into police custody without incident. As a result of investigation, it is also believed the male stole items from the vehicles located by police.
