The Regina Police Service reports that the encampment outside City Hall has been decommissioned safely.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m. today, Regina Police Service (RPS) officers assisted Regina Fire and Protective Services (RFPS) in decommissioning the camp. Those in the area were asked to vacate multiple times and while the majority complied, 11 arrests were made – most for Obstructing a Peace Officer and one for Assaulting a Police Officer.
The 11 arrested were transported to the RPS Detention Unit. It is not clear at this time if charges will be laid. It is anticipated they will be released from custody later tonight.
Approximately 30 officers from multiple units were on site today, including members of our Police and Crisis Team (PACT), Traffic, Patrol, Crisis Negotiators and our Public Safety Unit (PSU).
There were no injuries to the public or officers reported as a result of this event. Throughout the day, and since June 15, 2023 when the decampment started, RPS officers have been working to connect those at the encampment to support services.
On Thursday, July 27, 2023, Regina Fire and Protective Services ordered the encampment be decommissioned due to an imminent threat to public safety.
