Three adult males are facing charges following an investigation that began after a weapon was observed being exchanged on surveillance video.
On Friday, July 7, 2023, officers were called to the 2200 Block of 12th Avenue after an employee of a nearby business observed two males exchange what appeared to be a firearm. While the responding officers were viewing the video, they received word from two patrol officers nearby that they had a male under arrest matching the description of one of the suspects in the video. The suspect was in possession of a large knife and a sword. Police confirmed he was one of the males in the video seen handing a firearm to a second suspect.
Further investigation revealed this male was also wanted in relation to a taxi cab robbery that took place June 22, 2023. In this case, the suspect got away with cash as well as the taxi cab, which was later found abandoned.
The search for the second suspect in the video continued and a short time later, a member of the RPS Canine Unit located a male in the area of 1400 Block of Garnet Street who matched the description of the second suspect. Through investigation they determined he was not the suspect they were looking for in relation to the earlier firearms call. However, he was in possession of a firearm, ammunition and a bladed weapon. He was also wanted on a warrant and was arrested.
The following day (July 8, 2023) at approximately 11:50 a.m., patrol officers located and arrested the second suspect from the video. He was in possession of bear spray as well as a firearm that matched the description of the one seen in the surveillance video the day prior.
