A 15 year-old male youth is facing charges following an incident at a business in the 1700 Block of Dewdney Avenue East. Officers were called to the location shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2023 for a report that a male victim had been stabbed.
When officers arrived they found the male victim outside the business suffering from both a stab wound to his back and the effects of bear spray. The victim told police that he and his friend had encountered a group of teenagers as they approached the business and a verbal altercation occurred. The victim was bear sprayed in the face and stabbed in the back before the group of suspects fled on foot.
Through investigation, it was learned that one of the teenagers was responsible for the attack. Members of our Patrol and Canine Units worked throughout the weekend to locate the male youth suspect, who had not returned home following the incident. Early Sunday evening (May 7, 2023), the suspect’s parents brought him to the Regina Police Service Headquarters where he was arrested.
As a result, the 15 year-old male suspect, who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Assault With a Weapon [CC 267(A)]; and
- Fail to Comply With Conditions of Release [CC 145(5)(A)].
The youth made his first appearance on these charges in Regina Provincial Youth Court, this morning, May 8, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.
