The arrest of an impaired male, on Monday, and the investigation that followed provide an example of how rapidly a so-called routine call-for-service can become complicated. This investigation also demonstrates a direct link between effective policing and public safety.
On Monday, September 26, 2022, at approximately 8:45 a.m., police responded to the 1200 block of East 9th Avenue, for a report of a male passed out behind the wheel of an idling vehicle. Police located the suspect male and arrested him for impaired driving. The officers observed signs of possible drug impairment, so the male was taken to hospital for a blood test. During a search of the vehicle, police located and seized a shotgun, a crossbow, well over 100 rounds of various firearm ammunition and bolts for the crossbow, and a quantity of a substance later confirmed to be methamphetamine. The male was subsequently charged for the additional offences.
Twenty-seven year-old Tyler Byron ROGERS, of Regina, is facing charges of:
– Impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol or drug, s. 320.14(1)(a) CC;
– Unauthorized possession of a prohibited device (crossbow), s. 91(2) CC;
– Unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 91(1) CC; and
– Possession of a scheduled substance (methamphetamine), s. 4(1) CDSA.
ROGERS made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday (today), September 27, 2022.
