The Regina Police Service responded yesterday (Monday) to a collision in which a vehicle struck a child on a bicycle. The cyclist, an 11 year-old boy, sustained significant injuries, but fortunately the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Patrol officers were dispatched just after 6:14 p.m. to the 2800 block of Elgaard Drive, for a report of a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist. The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was riding his bicycle, on Elgaard Drive when a westbound vehicle struck the victim’s bike. The adult male driver remained at the scene with the victim until EMS and police arrived. Alcohol is not a factor in this collision. It’s believed the driver was travelling at a speed below the speed limit when the collision occurred. Police commend the cyclist for wearing a bike helmet, which likely saved the victim from more serious injuries.
This collision is still under investigation. If anyone has information that could assist police, they are asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500 or Regina Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
