Three young persons and one adult have been charged with Break and Enter after a business break in in northwest Regina in the early-morning hours of Thursday, June 9th.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2022, patrol officers were dispatched to an alarm at a restaurant in the 4400 block of Rochdale Boulevard. The complainant was a security company monitoring the alarm system. When officers arrived on scene, there were no suspects in or near the business. They began their investigation, gaining a description (from video) of two male suspects. A few hours later, on an unrelated call, the investigators realized a male in a vehicle at McCarthy and 9th Avenue North matched the description of one of the suspects in the B&E. One male was arrested without incident. One male ran and was tracked by a Canine team: he was arrested without any contact (no dog bite). Two females were also arrested. Further investigation led to charges against all four.
Three of the accused are young persons. They cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A 15 year-old female and a 17 year-old female are charged with Break & Enter and Commit Theft, section 348(1)(b) CC.
A 17 year-old male is also charged with:
- Break & Enter and Commit Theft, section 348(1)(b) CC;
- Obstruct Peace Officer, 129(a) CC;
- Resist Arrest, s. 129(a) CC; and
- Breach of Probation, s. 733.1(1) CC.
Eighteen year-old Dakota Dillon James BUTTON, of Regina is charged with:
- Break & Enter and Commit Theft, section 348(1)(b) CC; and
- Obstruct Peace Officer, 129(a) CC, as well as a breach of conditions.
Dakota BUTTON made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, June 10, 2022. The accused youths made their first court appearances on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, June 10, 2022.
