Spring-like weather has many of us inspired to start the new season with less clutter and, with the weekend coming, there might be some Spring cleaning on people’s minds. It’s the perfect time to get rid of any unwanted firearms in your possession by using the 2022 Firearms Amnesty Program.
Here’s how it works: anyone who has an unwanted firearm, ammunition, or even pieces of a firearm can contact the Regina Police Service (or nearest RCMP detachment) and ask to have an officer come to collect the unwanted firearm. In Regina, please call 306-777-6500 and indicate that you want to participate in the Gun Amnesty Program. An officer will be sent to your house to handle and remove the firearm/ammunition. Please do not bring firearms to Regina Police Service Headquarters; you just have to call us.
So, what is an “unwanted firearm”? It might surprise the public to know how often this scenario happens. A person might end up in possession of an unwanted firearm through circumstances like the death of a family member who, at one time, used/owned firearms for farming/hunting/sport. The surviving family member may have no interest in owning firearms, but doesn’t quite know how to go about getting rid of them. That’s where the Firearms Amnesty program comes in.
Happy Spring Cleaning! And, call us, if you need our help: 306-777-6500, Firearms Amnesty Program.
