On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at approximately 1:35 p.m., police observed a male with a firearm at the southeast corner of 12th Avenue and Montreal Street entering a residence. Three occupants exited the residence with one believed to be the suspect male. The suspect male then re-entered the building.
Police members of the Community Services Division and Investigative Service Division, including members of Patrol, Traffic Safety Unit, and Canine Unit, surrounded the residence while Crisis Negotiation Team members made attempts to establish contact.
Six occupants exited the residence, and were taken into custody by police at around 3:30 p.m. The 25 year-old male who was confirmed to be the male holding the firearm, was arrested and charged. Four of the others detained were found to have warrants, which were executed. One of these, a 25 year-old female, was found to be in breach of a conditions of release order.
A search warrant was then authorized on the residence, and the firearm was recovered.
Twenty-five year-old Danton BITTERNOSE, or Regina, is charged with:
- 2 X Possess Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order [CC 117.01(1)];
- Possess Firearm Knowing its Possession Unauthorized [CC 92(1)];
- Possess Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition [CC 95(1)(A)]; and
- Carry Concealed Weapon [CC 90].
Twenty-five year-old Katherine Paula MERK, of Regina, is charged with:
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)].
The accused will make their first appearances on these charges in Provincial Court today, December 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
