A 14 year-old female youth has been charged after investigation into an assault early this morning, involving bear spray as a weapon. This investigation is ongoing.
At approximately 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021, police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Robinson Street for a report of a weapons offence involving bear spray. The caller also indicated that someone had broken windows in the house before discharging the bear spray inside. The window of a vehicle belonging to one of the victims had also been smashed. It was determined that none of the occupants of the house needed EMS treatment. Through investigation the officers identified a potential suspect, who was located at another location, a short time later. The suspect and the victims are known to each other. This investigation is ongoing.
The 14 year-old female cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice act. She is charged with: two counts of Mischief under $5,000 (car window & house windows), s. 430(4) CC; and Assault with a Weapon, s. 267(a) CC. The female youth made her first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. today: Thursday, August 5, 2021.
