A 62 year-old Regina male is facing a charge of Assault with a Weapon after an exchange between two individuals yesterday in front of a downtown hotel, which has a COVID isolation unit for people who are COVID-positive but not able to self-isolate.
Police were dispatched at about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, to the 1800 block of Victoria Avenue. Preliminary information received indicated that a female, who works at the COVID isolation unit, was the victim of an assault. Police attended and spoke with the 56 year-old victim, who said she had gone outside on her break and engaged in a verbal exchange with a male who was part of a group of protestors. The victim alleged that the male struck her on the head with his sign. The victim indicated the suspect and police placed him under arrest. Further investigation led to a charge against the male suspect.
Sixty-two year-old George Joseph SEITZ, of Regina, has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, contrary to section 267(a) of the Criminal Code. SEITZ was released on a undertaking and will make his first court appearance on this charge before Provincial Court on September 13, 2021.
