Effective communication and investigation into a stolen auto incident has resulted in criminal charges for a 21 year-old Regina male.
On Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at about 6:35 p.m., the Regina Police Service Communications Centre received a call from a male stating that someone had just taken his truck. The vehicle was a green, 1997 GMC-1500 truck and it was taken from an alley in the 1300 block of Rothwell Street. The victim gave a detailed description of the vehicle and a broadcast was sent out to all members on duty. At about 10:45 p.m., a Canine Unit member spotted a vehicle, matching the description, travelling southbound on Rae Street. The driver abandoned the vehicle in the area of Dewdney and Edward Street and fled on foot. The male was arrested without incident a few minutes later. Upon further investigation, the male was charged.
Twenty-one year-old Alexander Cruse GIESBRECHT, of Regina, has been charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle, section 333.1(1) CC; and
- Possession of Stolen Property under $5,000, section 355(b) CC.
GIESBRECHT will make his first court appearance on these charges before Provincial Court at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
