The Regina Police Service has issued more tickets for breaches of the Province’s Public Health Orders at recent Anti-Mask rallies and activities.
In connection with a gathering in Victoria Park on April 24th, police have now served eleven (11) public health, and one traffic, SOTIs (Summary Offence Ticket Information) to individuals who were at the rally. Other tickets have already been issued; these will be served, at the earliest opportunity, to the individuals named on those tickets, in some cases with the assistance of other police agencies. Investigation is also continuing on other fronts, with police having gathered evidence to help identify unmasked protestors in a shopping mall on April 24th. It is anticipated success in these investigations will result in more tickets for breaching Public Health Orders which state, among other provisions, that outdoor gatherings must not exceed a limit of ten people, and anyone in a public indoor space (mall) is required to wear a mask.
The Regina Police Service is aware of another gathering planned for this coming weekend, to protest the Province’s Public Health Orders. Police have an operational plan which will involve uniformed and plainclothes police members, monitoring and gathering evidence for further investigation, as well as maintaining the peace. It is important for the public to understand that there is no benefit in escalating tensions at these events, or provoking people into criminal acts which may include property damage or assault. Police will take enforcement action which is appropriate, both for the immediate circumstances of the day, and as the result of investigation.
