A 66 year-old male, from Alberta, made his first appearance before Provincial Court in Regina today on charges of assault and sexual assault in connection with investigation into a sexual assault alleged to have occurred in 1988.
In April 2021, the Regina Police Service received a report alleging offences committed by an adult on a male youth in Regina, in 1988. At that time, the alleged offender held a position of authority as a hockey coach, and it was through this position that he was introduced to the victim, who was 17 years old at the time. Investigation into these allegations led to evidence sufficient to support charges of both assault and sexual assault against the adult male. When initial efforts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful, the Regina Police Service requested a Canada-wide warrant for the suspect’s arrest. The suspect turned himself in to the RCMP in Devon, Alberta, on May 1, 2021. He was remanded and returned to Regina to face the charges.
Sixty-six year-old Bernard Charles LYNCH, of Alberta, is charged with:
- Assault 266 CC; and
- Sexual Assault 271 CC.
LYNCH made his first court appearance on these charges before Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021.
