On Sunday, March 14, 2021, police located a stolen vehicle traveling in the area of Dewdney Avenue East. At approximately 10:00 p.m., police successfully deployed a spike belt in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Brown Street, however the vehicle continued to travel erratically on a flat tire. The vehicle drove westbound out of city limits on Dewdney Avenue. Police deployed a second spike belt at 10:20 p.m. and the vehicle came to a stop near the Global Transportation Hub.
The lone male driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody by police without incident. In a search incident to arrest, officers discovered the male was in possession of vehicle keys that had been altered/shaved, as well as multiple tools, believed to be used to break into vehicles and shave keys. As a result:
Twenty year-old James Dennis WILCOX, of Regina, has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Under $5000 [CC 355 (B)];
- Possession of Automobile Master Key [CC 353 (1)(B)];
- Flight From Peace Officer [CC 320.17];
- Possession of Break In Instruments [CC 351 (1)];
- 2 X Operation of A Conveyance While Prohibited [CC 320.18 (1)(A)];
- Fail To Comply With Condition of a Release Order [CC 145 (5)(A)];
- Fail To Comply With Probation Order [CC 733.1 (1)].
WILCOX made his first court appearance on the charges in Provincial Court this morning (Monday, March 15, 2021) at 9:30 a.m.
