The Regina Police Service, in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, has begun a death investigation, with the death of the victim of a serious assault that occurred last night (January 19th). The potential link between the assault and the victim’s death, means the police and coroner are now treating this as Regina’s second homicide of 2021. Police were notified the morning of January 20th, of the victim’s death in hospital.
The victim is an adult male and as of this time, his family has been notified of his death. Police will release the victim’s name publicly, but wanted to give the family some time before doing so.
The assault investigation began at approximately 8:50 p.m. on January 19, 2021, when police were dispatched to the 1700 block of Quebec Street for a report of an injured male. When police and EMS arrived, they found a male who had sustained injuries described as serious. EMS transported the male to hospital. The victim passed away on January 20, 2021.
There is no further information to release at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
