On the early morning of Sunday, December 20, 2020, shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to the area of the 3800 block of Normandy Avenue for the report of a stolen vehicle in progress. Information received was that a male and female had been in a residence where they stole keys, and then took the vehicle.
Police attended to the area and located the stolen vehicle on Albert Street. Police attempted a spike belt in the vehicle, which continued driving recklessly. Police observed the driver exit the vehicle on the 1200 block of Angus Street. The abandoned vehicle continued movement at a slow rate of speed, stopping after colliding into a light post. Police pursued the male on foot, verbally commanding the male to stop, while the male ran away. A Police Service Dog then pursued the male, biting him in the area of the 1200 block of Rae Street, where police subsequently arrested the male. EMS attended and treated the male for his injury.
Among the items revealed in the search was a key from a previously reported stolen vehicle, as well as substances believed to be methamphetamine and fentanyl. The male was charged for both stolen vehicles, drug possession, and being in breach of conditions of probation.
Twenty-six year-old James Riley DICK, of Regina, is charged with:
- 2 X Fail to Comply with Probation Order [CC 733.1(1)]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 [CC 355(A)];
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 [CC 355(B)];
- Theft of Motor Vehicle [CC 333.1(1)];
- Possession of a scheduled substance (methamphetamine) [CDSA 4(1)]; and
- Possession of a scheduled substance (fentanyl) [CDSA 4(1)].
DICK made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this morning, December 21, 2020, at 9:30 a.m.
