Regina residents may be aware of an organized convoy and rally occurring in our city today. This convoy and rally is expected to include a number of vehicles entering Regina early Saturday afternoon, and it’s expected that vehicles and pedestrians will convene near the Legislative grounds in Regina upon arrival.
The Regina Police Service has contacted the organizers of the rally and we are aware of the route planned. We will have numerous officers present to monitor the event and remind the public that every citizen has the right to peaceful protest. The role of the Regina Police Service in Saturday’s event is to maintain the peace and ensure public safety.
The Regina Police Service has also consulted with the Saskatchewan Health Authority about the event, given the current Public Health Orders. We will continue to assess the event within that framework through the duration of the rally. The Regina Police Service expects everyone in attendance at the event to follow Saskatchewan Health Authority recommendations, according to current Public Health Orders. As noted, our officers will be in attendance and will monitor the event. Police will determine appropriate action based upon all the circumstances of the rally and continual assessment of the situation.
The anticipated size of the convoy and rally, like any other large gathering, has the potential to present some traffic issues. To that end, the Regina Police Service Traffic Safety Unit has developed an operational traffic plan to ensure safety for pedestrians and motorists; that includes individuals attending the rally and those who are simply in the area. Any motorists who wish to avoid this event should choose routes other than Albert Street and other roadways immediately around the Legislature. We thank the citizens of Regina for your continued patience and support.
