(Previously released information)
An 18 year-old male has been charged in connection with a weapons offence at a downtown mall on Tuesday, October 6, 2020.
At approximately 12:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of 11th Avenue for a report of a discharge of what appeared to be bear spray. Early information provided a suspect description as well as direction of travel. A suspect male ran from the north doors of the mall, heading west on Saskatchewan Drive. Officers conducted an area check and located the suspect male walking in the 1900 block of Halifax Street. He was arrested without further incident on St. John Street. As part of the investigation, officers gathered security footage and witness statements. While a number of people were affected by the bear spray, none appeared to require medical treatment from EMS, also dispatched to the mall. Investigation indicates the bear spray was directed intentionally at another male. The victim who was sprayed directly left the mall and his identity is not known to police.
Eighteen year-old Gerald Andrew ANAQUOD, of Regina, is charged with:
- Assault with a Weapon (bear spray) [267(a) CC]; and
- Carry Concealed Weapon [90 CC].
The accused was released on conditions and will make his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on November 25, 2020.
