On Monday September 14, 2020, Regina Police Service members discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, during an arrest. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On September 14th, 2020 police were dispatched to a report of a male attempting to punch a member of the public and that the victim was now screaming that the male was coming after him. Once on scene police witnessed the male run aggressively at the victim. When police yelled and gave chase to the male he turned towards officers. He was commanded to get on the ground but refused. When officers approached the male to affect an arrest he attempted to tackle one of the officers by grabbing around his leg. The male also began to grab at the officer’s duty belt during the altercation. The male had to be physically taken to the ground and eventually a CEW was deployed in order to gain compliance. The male was then safely taken into custody. No one was injured during the incident.
