A 22 year-old male is facing several charges in connection with a theft and a series of Break & Enters over the past ten days in Regina. The charges are the result of continued investigation by Regina Police Service Patrol officers and Property Crimes investigators.
Among incidents reported to police in the past ten days, the following incidents were found to have similarities:
– July 9th – Between 2:00 and 4:00 a.m. – Break & Enter to a business in the 100 block of East Victoria Avenue. An unknown suspect smashed a glass door at the side of the building. The items stolen include: a cash drawer, some electronic equipment and a donation jar. Officers are able to identify a potential suspect, but he cannot be found.
– July 11th – 9:53 p.m. – Shoplifting at a convenience store. A male suspect entered the premises and stole a basket full of food items. Police are able to view surveillance video of the event and the suspect.
– July 12th – 04:50 a.m. – Break & Enter at a business, 300 block Albert Street. The glass front door was smashed. Video surveillance showed a male suspect entering the premises, grabbing cash trays and exiting.
– July 15th – 8:00 a.m. – Break & Enter to business in the 500 block of Albert Street. The glass front door was smashed, and there was some other damage in the business, but it did not appear anything was taken.
– July 19th – 7:00 a.m. – Break & Enter to business in the 2700 block of Avonhurst Drive. The suspect smashed the glass front door with a large rock and removed electronic equipment. A cash register tray was found at the rear of the business.
Continued investigation into these incidents and communication with other officers led to identification of a suspect believed to be involved in these events. The suspect was arrested without incident on July 19, 2020. Upon further investigation, the male was charged in connection with these cases.
Twenty-two year-old Jeremy Austin Lee HASTINGS, of Regina, is charged with:
- 4 x Break & Enter and Commit an Indictable Offence [348(1)(b) CC];
- Theft (shoplifting) under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and
- Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000 [355.2 CC].
HASTINGS made his first court appearance on these charges for Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2020.
