On Saturday, July 11, 2020 at approximately 11:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Garnet Street for a report of a weapons offence. Early information suggested a male was seen threatening two individuals outside with a bladed weapon. He was also allegedly seen entering a residence on the block.
As police approached the location, officers heard what they believed to be a gunshot. Police set up a perimeter in the area and officers attempted to call out the occupant/occupants of the residence. The Regina Police Service SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics) team was called out to the location. While police attempted to negotiate with those inside the home, a male exited the residence on numerous occasions, but refused to cooperate with police commands. It’s alleged the male stated he was in possession of a firearm and would shoot police. At approximately 12:15 a.m, the male exited the residence and again failed to follow police direction; as a result, he was taken into custody by a canine team and was bitten by the dog. The male was taken to hospital by EMS to receive medical treatment for his injuries.
Further investigation included a search of the residence, which resulted in police locating a machete, but no firearm. The male was charged in connection to the alleged threats.
