The Regina Police Service is investigating an aggravated assault believed to have occurred at a house in the 1700 block of Quebec Street earlier today, June 30, 2011. A 26 year-old male victim is in hospital for treatment of his injuries.
At 6:12 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011, police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Victoria Avenue for a report of an injured person. Police and EMS located a 26 year-old male who was taken to hospital with injuries that were described as serious. The victim is still in hospital at this time. Preliminary investigation indicates the male was injured in an altercation in a house in the 1700 block of Quebec Street; the victim left that residence and walked south toward the intersection of Quebec Street and Victoria Avenue. It was there he was discovered by a motorist who alerted police.
Initially investigators closed both east and west bound lanes of Victoria Avenue to preserve possible evidence. Victoria Avenue was opened to traffic again just before 9:00 a.m. Currently, police are diverting traffic from the 1700 to 1900 blocks of Quebec Street and holding a residence in the 1700 block of Quebec Street as part of the investigation. Investigators are also interviewing several people in order to determine what involvement, if any, they have in this incident. This investigation is ongoing.
