The Watch Commander is a police officer in the rank of Staff Sergeant. There are four Watch Commanders; one for each of the four Patrol shifts; meaning the position is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Watch Commander oversees each shift and is responsible for ensuring adequate staffing, overseeing the shift, and reporting on significant events from the shift to both management and the public. Watch Commanders also makes key decisions during active calls for service; that includes the call out of Emergency Services Teams and specialized investigative units when required. Watch Commanders also take public complaints about the conduct of members of the Regina Police Service from members of the public.
