Drivers in Regina may have noticed a few more officers on the streets over this past week. Our policing partners from across the province were in the city for the annual Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). S.T.E.P. combines provincial resources to take traffic enforcement and education to various Saskatchewan cities throughout the year. Regina’s S.T.E.P. blitz took place on Tuesday, September 24th and Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 and included representatives from the Regina Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, Prince Albert Police Service, Moose Jaw Police Service, Estevan Police Service, Rosetown Combined Traffic Services (CTSS), Melfort CTSS, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol, Canadian Pacific Kansas City Rail Police Service, and RCMP from across the province.
Officers and civilian staff from the above mentioned organizations worked together to improve road safety, with the ultimate goal of reducing injuries and fatalities on Saskatchewan roads. The project included traffic stop checks at various Regina locations, including near school zones and in residential areas. The crews primarily focused on speeding, unregistered vehicles, proper use of car seats, illegal use of cell phones, and seat belt violations. Officers were also on the look-out for other offences, such as impaired drivers.
