A 23 year-old female is charged after a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian fatality.
On Monday, May 13, 2024, at approximately 2:25 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Robinson Street and 7th Avenue for the reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Police and EMS located the injured adult male, who had succumbed to injury and was pronounced deceased. The vehicle had remained on scene, and the occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody.
Investigation determined the victim was legally crossing the street on a marked pedestrian crosswalk in a 30 km/h school zone, and was struck by the vehicle which was travelling at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the vehicle was found to be impaired, and she was charged accordingly.
As a result, twenty-three year-old Shauntae SUNKAWASTI, of Regina, is charged with:
- Impaired Drive Causing Death [CC 320.14(3)];
- Impaired Drive Exceeding .08 [CC 320.14(1)(B)]; and
- Dangerous Drive Causing Death [CC 320.13(3)].
SUNKAWASTI makes her first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.
