A 16 year-old youth is charged with dangerous driving after being spotted by the RPS Aerial Support Unit (ASU) on Friday evening.
At approximately 7:15 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023, ASU officers were patrolling from the air and observed a vehicle driving at high rates of speed in the city’s North West end. Officers followed the vehicle from the air as it sped through a school zone on Mapleford Boulevard and down multiple residential streets. The vehicle was travelling between 80km/h and 130 km/h through heavy traffic, before coming to a stop a short time later in a driveway on Boswell Crescent.
ASU directed ground patrol officers to the location of the vehicle. Those officers arrived at the residence as the three occupants were exiting the vehicle. The driver was arrested without incident.
As a result, a 16 year-old youth who cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act is charged with:
- Operate a Conveyance Dangerous to the Public [CC 320.13(1)].
The youth will make his first appearance on this charge in Regina Provincial Youth Court on January 15, 2023.
