On Monday, August 7, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of College Avenue and Cornwall Street for a report of two people struck by a vehicle and lying in the middle of the street. Police arrived on scene and found two females with what appeared to be significant injuries. The driver of the vehicle had remained on scene. The injured females were transported to hospital by EMS for treatment of their injuries. The Regina Police Service Forensic Investigation Unit and Regina Police Service Traffic Safety Unit collision investigators were called to the scene.
Investigation determined that the driver, a 20 year-old male, was driving his vehicle in the rain without functioning windshield wipers and drove through a red light striking the two crossing pedestrians. The male was arrested and charged.
Twenty year-old Matthew NIMCHUK, of Regina, is charged with:
- 2 X Dangerous Drive Causing Bodily Harm [CC 320.13(2)].
NIMCHUK made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 9:30 p.m.
