When police officers are dispatched to a call for service, things are not always as they may first appear. An example of this is a call-for-service on Saturday, December 17th that started as a potential weapons offence and then quickly became an investigation that also involved stolen vehicles and a second suspect. Careful, thorough investigation into these allegations has led to charges against two adult males.
On December 17, 2022 at about 9:40 p.m., units were dispatched to Walden Crescent for a potential threatening/weapons call. A female at the residence a male had threatened to stab her; she believed he‘d arrived at the house in a stolen vehicle. When police arrived, they saw a male walking away from a parked Mercedes on the street. A CPIC check on the vehicle showed it was stolen. By then the male was believed to be inside the residence. The caller allowed police into the residence to search for any other people inside. Police took two males into custody and located a second vehicle (Ford Windstar) at the property that was confirmed stolen. One of the individuals was the subject of warrants from October, 2022, and was also a suspect in connection with a previous hit and run on December 17th, combined with an attempt to report his own vehicle stolen (public mischief). After investigation, both males were charged. There was insufficient evidence to support a charge of uttering threats.
