The Regina Police Service is continuing an investigation after an incident in the 17th Avenue area of South Regina on Monday, January 10, 2022. Police asked the public to avoid the area, but the incident has now been safely resolved and the streets are open again to traffic.
Police were dispatched at approximately 11:10 a.m. to the 3700 block of 17th Avenue for a report of a male, possibly threatening self-harm. Patrol members responded and established a safety perimeter, while at the same time, working to verify information and assess the situation as well as any potential risk to the public, and the male himself. A number of police vehicles and officers responded to this incident in various capacities including traffic control, background investigation, and negotiation. At approximately 9:15 p.m., a 65 year-old male peacefully surrendered to police.
