On Friday, November 19, 2021, at approximately 7:20 a.m. police were dispatched to the 6700 block of Dewdney Avenue for the report of a home invasion. A lone female was in the residence when a male armed with a machete entered and attempted to steal a bike. A male arrived to assist the victim but the suspect locked him outside the house. Once the outside male entered the house, the suspect pointed the bladed weapon at the male. The suspect attempted to leave the house with the bicycle but was unsuccessful, and fled.
Upon arrival, police witnessed a male enter a taxicab, and the cab drive away. The male was then observed exiting the cab, and fleeing on foot. The suspect entered a yard on the 1400 block of Kent Street, where he was pursued by canine, and bitten. Police apprehended the male, and he was treated by EMS for minor injuries. The male was subsequently charged. A search revealed a substance believed to be fentanyl.
Twenty-nine year-old John Edward DEMARAIS, of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl) [5(2) CDSA];
- Break and Enter with Intent [CC 348(1)(A)];
- Assault with a Weapon [CC 267(A)];
- Uttering Threats [CC 264.1(1)(A)]; and
- Possession of a Weapon [CC 88].
The accused made his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court this afternoon, Friday, November 19, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
