The Regina Police Service is warning the public of recent scam attempt that has been reported by a citizen in the Glencairn neighborhood, where a door-to-door canvasser is fraudulently asking for a charitable donation.
On November 4, 2021, around 8:00 p.m. an unknown female came to the door of a residence claiming to be from a known good will organization. The female stated that due to COVID-19, they are only accepting credit card donations instead of cash. The female made many references to neighbours in the area, and made convincing claims about the legitimacy of her canvassing and stressed the importance of the organization’s mandates. When the resident agreed to give a donation and share their credit card number, another person at the residence intervened, and the female left. The two then checked the organization’s website which confirmed that the organization does not canvas for door-to-door donations.
The Regina Police Service is asking that anyone who believes they have fallen victim to this scam to report the incident to police.
Anyone with information that could assist police in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500, or your local law enforcement agency, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS). The Regina Police Service thanks the public and the media for their assistance in this matter.
