Three male youths and one adult male are facing charges after RPS investigation into a weapons offence.
On August 31, 2021, at approximately 4:42 a.m., police were dispatched to the 2700 block of 5th Avenue for a report of a group of males, one possibly pointing a firearm at people. At about the same time a call was received from a male at a residence in the 1200 block of Angus Street reporting males outside with firearms. The initial caller did not wait for police and could not be located, but the victim in the second call described being threatened by three young males, with two firearms and a machete. Officers were also notified of a broken window in the 3000 block of 5th Avenue and a report of a disturbance involving a group of people. A number of police cars responded and a search of the area resulted in the arrest of four suspects. One improvised firearm, a bladed weapon, and a concealed baseball bat were recovered in the arrests. Further investigation led to criminal charges.
Three male youths were arrested and charged. They cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A 15 year-old male was charged with:
- Possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to public peace, s. 88 CC;
- Carrying a concealed weapon, s. 90 CC;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 91(1) CC;
- Assault with a weapon, 267(a) CC; and
- Pointing a firearm, s. 87 CC.
The 15 year-old made his first appearance in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
A 17 year-old male is charged with: Carrying a concealed weapon (wrist-mounted knives), s. 90 CC; and Mischief under $5,000, s. 430(4) CC.
A second 17 year-old is charged with: Carrying a concealed weapon (bat), s. 90 CC; and Mischief under $5,000, s. 430(4) CC. Both 17 year-olds were released on undertakings and will make his first court appearance in Youth Court on October 19, 2021, at 9:30 a.m.
Eighteen year-old Dante Atlantis LINKLATER, of Regina, is charged with:
- Obstruct peace officer (giving false name), s. 129(a) CC;
- Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(4)(a) CC; and
- Mischief under $5,000, s. 430(4) CC.
LINKLATER was released on an undertaking to appear in Provincial Court on October 19, 2021.
