A 49 year-old male has been charged with Kidnapping and Uttering Threats after investigation into an incident in Regina yesterday.
On Thursday, May 27, 2021, at approximately 2:20 p.m., police were dispatched for a report of a domestic-related weapons offence that had occurred earlier in the day at a business in the 200 block of Albert Street North. An adult female reported that her ex-intimate-partner had gone to her workplace and got into her vehicle, when she was seated inside. It’s alleged the male threatened her with an edged weapon and demanded that she drive away. A co-worker came to her aid and the suspect fled on foot. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. At the time the victim was making her report, police already had the male suspect in custody on related domestic warrants. Further investigation led to charges against the male.
Because this is a domestic-related incident, making the accused’s name public could have the unintended consequence of identifying the victim, who is fearful for her safety. For that reason, the Regina Police Service will not release the accused male’s name at this time. He is charged with the following offences:
- Kidnapping, s. 279(1)(a) CC;
- Uttering Threats, s. 264.1(1)(a) CC;
- Breach of Undertaking, s. 145(4)(a) CC; and
- Breach of Probation, s. 733.1(1) CC.
The accused made his first court appearance on these charges before Provincial Court at 9:00 a.m., on Friday, May 28, 2021. There will be additional follow-up and supports offered for the victim through RPS Victim Services and Family Service Regina.
