An adult male and adult female are facing firearms charges following a traffic stop that led to discovery of a firearm in the back seat.
On Monday, February 22, 2021, at about 11:10 p.m., police officers observed a Pontiac Grand Prix driving west on Dewdney Avenue. A check of the license plate showed the plate was registered for a different vehicle, not a Grand Prix. The officers performed a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Saskatchewan Drive and Broad Street. The vehicle was occupied by a female driver and male passenger. Officers could also see a rifle, partly wrapped in cloth, in the back seat. Both individuals were safely taken into custody. A search of the male yielded small quantities of substances believed to be drugs. The license plate was confirmed as stolen. Both suspects were charged.
Thirty year-old Nikki Brianna JONES and 47 year-old Darren Leon PELLETIER are facing the following charges:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000 [355(b) CC];
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose [88 CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Non-restricted Firearm [91(1) CC];
- Unauthorized Possession of a Non-restricted Firearm in a Motor Vehicle [94(1) CC].
In addition, PELLETIER was charged with two counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance [4(1) CDSA] for possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
JONES and PELLETIER made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.
