A 36 year-old male was taken into custody last night (Thursday) by the Regina Police Service, working in consultation with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The male was the subject of a detention order for his refusal to abide by Public Health Orders mandating him to self-isolate because of his positive COVID-19 status.
On Thursday, January 21, 2021, at approximately 7:36 p.m., police were dispatched to a downtown hotel, for an individual who had left the premises several times, despite his COVID-19-positive status, in contravention of Public Health Orders. This location houses individuals who are required to self-isolate, but who may not have the resources or living accommodations that would make it possible to self-isolate. Police officers in full PPE took the male into custody without incident and transported him to hospital in Regina The male was then transported to a closed-custody medical facility in North Battleford.
