A 35 year-old Saskatoon male has been charged with Attempted Murder and firearms charges after an incident at a warming shelter on the weekend.
On Friday, January 8, 2021, at about 8:28 a.m., several police units were dispatched to a warming shelter in the 3500 block of 5th Avenue for a report of a firearms offence. The caller indicated there was a male there trying to fight with staff. The male had left by the time police arrived, but investigation indicated the suspect pointed a home-made firearm at another person before discharging it. The shot struck a window of the building. Police were able to recover a projectile and learned the identity of the suspect. The male was the subject of a number of firearms prohibition orders. Police obtained a warrant for the arrest of this individual. He was arrested without further incident back at the same location on Sunday morning.
Thirty-five year-old Dexter Jonathon LEE, of Saskatoon, is charged with:
- Attempt Murder Using a Firearm [239(1)(a.1) CC];
- 4 X Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition [117.01(1) CC; and
- Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC].
LEE made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. (today) Monday, January 11, 2021.
