A 34 year-old Regina male has been charged with evading police after an incident in the early morning hours of January 7, 2021.
At approximately 4:46 a.m. on Thursday, January 7th, police observed a suspicious vehicle heading northbound on Albert Street from Saskatchewan Drive. Officers activated their emergency lights, signaling for the vehicle to pull over. The driver accelerated away and the vehicle was observed disobeying red lights and driving at excessive speeds. Officers kept the vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade, in view as it headed eastbound from Albert on 9th Avenue North. The vehicle parked in the area of 9th Ave. North and City View Crescent. A canine officer arrived to see the driver getting out of the vehicle and walking away. In spite of several police commands for him to stop, the driver ran and was promptly apprehended by a Police Service dog. The suspect was found to be a suspended and impoundable driver. The male was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, then charged and released on an undertaking.
In addition to a ticket for Driving While Disqualified under the Traffic Safety Act, 34 year-old William John ENGLAND, of Regina, is charged with Flight While Pursued by a Peace Officer [249.1(1) CC]. His court date for the criminal offence is June 10, 2021.
