On Wednesday October 21st, 2020 the Regina Police Service members discharged a CEW, commonly known as a Taser, during an arrest of an adult male. This advisory is in keeping with the Regina Police Service’s commitment to notify the public each time a CEW is discharged against a person.
On Wednesday October 21st, 2020 at approximately 17:14 hours police were dispatched to Prince of Wales Dr. for report of an intoxicated male with a knife. The male was supposed to be having a hard time
walking. Officers attended the scene and located the male stumbling through parking lots. He did not have a knife in his hands at that time. An officer, monitoring the male while he waited for other officers to arrive, observed the male fall into the street and struggle to get back up. When the officer attempted to assist the male the male took a swing at the officer. The male then took a knife out of his pocket and unfolded it. He then began charging at the officer. The officer backed away from the male and commanded him to drop the knife. The male did not comply and continued to walk towards the officer while making swinging motions with the knife and yelling at the officer to shoot him. A second officer arrived on scene at which time the male stopped advancing and turn the knife on himself, pressing it into his neck. The officers deployed a CEW which was successful and the male was safely taken into custody. There were no injuries.
