On the afternoon of Monday, October 12, 2020, at approximately 2:10 p.m., police were dispatched to a retail business on the 1200 block of Broad Street. It was reported that a male selected items and exited without attempting to pay. Store security stopped the male outside, and the suspect allegedly assaulted one of the security personnel. The male dropped the items, fleeing southbound. Security continued to chase, and the suspect motioned a knife towards them, and fled.
Police arrived, and a member of the Police Canine Unit began a track. The male was located by canine in an alley between 7th and 8th Avenues. The male fled, not stopping for police commands, and after crossing 8th Avenue, was bitten by the Police Service Dog. The 34 year-old male was arrested, and was transported to hospital for further assessment.
Thirty-four year-old Roy Ryan CHARLES, of Regina, is charged with:
- Shoplifting under $5,000 [CC 344(B)]; and
- 2 X Assault with a weapon [CC 267(A)].
CHARLES is scheduled to make his first appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on November 26, 2020, at 9:30 a.m.
