UPDATE: The Regina Police Service, working with Building Security and management of a downtown shopping centre, have determined a phoned-in bomb threat earlier today (Wednesday, October 7, 2020) poses no actual threat to public safety. Police officers and security personnel searched the areas to which the public has access and did not find any device or suspicious package.
This incident began at 3:57 p.m. today when the RPS Communications Centre received a call from a male alleging he was inside a shopping centre in the 2100 block of 11th Avenue and was in possession of an explosive device. Police response included members at the scene to assess the potential threat, secure the area, and search for a possible suspect and/or device, as well as senior staff at RPS Headquarters offering oversight and support should there be need to deploy additional emergency services resources, such as the Explosives Disposal Unit. The search was carried out using a Regina Police Service Canine team specifically trained in explosive detection. By approximately 6:40 p.m., officers were satisfied there was no explosive device in the building and cleared the call.
