For the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a member of the Regina Police Service has tested positive for COVID-19. The Regina Police Service was notified of the positive test result the evening of Monday, September 28, 2020.
“We knew this was inevitable, so we feel educated and well-prepared,” said Regina Police Service Chief, Evan Bray. “Our employee took swift and appropriate action in being tested at the first sign of symptoms. That gave us time to enact the necessary protocols to safeguard the health of all our employees and their families, while giving our affected employee the best chance of a speedy recovery.”
The affected employee is away from work for a minimum of 14 days, in accordance with guidelines provided by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). This employee does not work directly with members of the public. The employee’s work area and any other potentially-involved vehicles or work areas have undergone a thorough sanitization process. All employees of the Regina Police Service have been notified of the situation and advised to self-monitor. In accordance with direction from the SHA, RPS employees who had indirect or direct contact with the individual who tested positive have been advised to self-monitor or self-isolate where applicable.
The Regina Police Service is encouraging its employees, and all members of our community, to continue with preventive regimens, which include diligent hand-washing, wearing masks to limit the spread of droplets, and social distancing.
