On the early morning of Saturday, September 6, 2020, just after midnight, police observed a vehicle previously reported as stolen driving northbound on Albert Street. A tire deflation device was successfully deployed on the vehicle as it drove northbound on Highway 6. The vehicle continued northbound, eventually losing two tires and entering the ditch.
The occupants of the vehicle did not come out. After two hours of police negotiation, the occupants, a 45 year-old male and 40 year-old female, exited the vehicle and were taken into custody. The male began to exhibit signs of a drug overdose and was transported to hospital. Upon exit from the hospital, the 45 year-old male attempted to escape police custody and was re-arrested after a short foot pursuit. As a result, the male was charged with resisting arrest.
Forty-five year-old Joseph Charles CYR, of Punnichy, and 40 year-old Kelly Christine TWIST, of Gordon First Nation are jointly charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000.
CYR is also charged with:
- Fail to Comply with Release Order [CC 145(5)(A)]; and
- Resist Arrest [CC 129(A)].
CYR made his first appearance in Provincial Court today, September 8, 2020, at 9:30 a.m. TWIST is scheduled to make her first appearance in Provincial Court on October 26, 2020.
