The Regina Police Service has recovered stolen items due to an investigation into a recent incident where two Regina males are facing charges after dangerous driving and repeatedly evading police last night.
On December 28, 2015, at approximately 9:20 p.m., while police were en route to an incident with their emergency equipment activated, they came across a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed ahead of them. Officers pursued the vehicle after observing it drive through a red light, then disengaged pursuit after the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle was reported abandoned shortly after and seized by police.
On December 29, 2015, at approximately 4:10 a.m., police attempted a vehicle check on a vehicle with two males, believed to have evaded police earlier in the night. The vehicle failed to stop and police disengaged pursuit. Shortly thereafter, police received a report about two males in a backyard in the immediate area. Canine unit tracked from the abandoned vehicle to the suspects and apprehended the first suspect, believed to be the driver, while officers apprehended the second suspect. The driver was transported to hospital as a result of canine apprehension. A search of the vehicle revealed drugs, a weapon and items believed to be stolen property.
Twenty-three year-old Jarrett Riley MARKEL (DOB: 1992/06/14) of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of Break in Instruments [Sec 351(1), CC],
- Mischief under $5,000 [Sec 430(4), CC],
- Possession of a Weapon [Sec 88, CC],
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 [Sec 355(B), CC],
- Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer [Sec 249.1(1), CC],
- Driving while Ability Impaired [Sec 253(1)(A), CC],
- Fail or Refuse Provide Sample – Intoxilyzer [Sec 254(3)(A), CC]
Twenty-two year-old Albert MARTIN (DOB: 1993/09/11) of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of Break-in Instruments [Sec 351(1), CC],
- Mischief under $5,000 [Sec 430(4), CC],
- Possession of a Weapon [Sec 88, CC],
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 [Sec 355(B), CC],
- Possession of a Schedule II Substance (Cannabis Marihuana) [Sec 4(5), CDSA]
MARKEL and MARTIN will make their first appearance in Provincial Court on these charges today, Tuesday, December 29, 2015, at 2:00 p.m.
