Four female youth are facing charges after an incident on Monday morning.
On Monday, June 29, 2020 at approximately 5:10 a.m., police were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 3700 block of Regency Crescent. Early information suggested the vehicle was stolen. While en route to respond to the call, police observed the suspect vehicle in the area of Elphinstone Street and Argyle Street. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver of the vehicle evaded police. Minutes later, another police unit witnessed the vehicle crash into a garage in the alley behind the 700 block of Cameron Street. Multiple occupants fled on foot. Information provided to police suggested the vehicle had been occupied by four females.
A perimeter was set up, and members of the K9 unit began a track. Four youth females were located in the area and arrested by police. The vehicle was confirmed to be stolen. As a result:
A 15 year-old female youth, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle [CC 333.1 (1)];
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5000 [CC 355 (A)];
- Flight From Peace Officer [CC 320.17]; and
- Fail to Comply With Condition of a Release Order [CC 145 (5)(A)].
A 14 year-old female youth, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle [CC 333.1 (1)];
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5000 [CC 355 (A)]; and
- Fail to Comply With Condition of a Release Order [CC 145 (5)(A)].
A 13 year-old female youth, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
- Theft of Motor Vehicle [CC 333.1 (1)]; and
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5000 [CC 355 (A)].
A 12 year-old female youth, who cannot be named in accordance with provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with:
- Possession of Property Obtained By Crime Over $5000 [CC 355 (A)].
All four females made their first court appearances on the charges in Provincial Youth Court on Monday, June 29, 2020) at 1:30 p.m.
