On Saturday, June 20, 2020, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police were dispatched to the on-ramp of Winnipeg and Ring Road for the report a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, police observed two damaged vehicles, one of which was upside down.
Investigation determined that one of the vehicles, occupied by a male driver and female passenger, was southbound on Winnipeg Street, making an eastbound turn before safe to do so, and collided with a northbound vehicle with five occupants. The eastbound turning vehicle was overturned.
EMS attended and the five occupants of the northbound vehicle, three of which were children, did not appear injured. The male driver of the overturned vehicle did not appear injured; the female passenger was transported to hospital with injuries believed to be minor.
The driver of the overturned vehicle appeared intoxicated, and was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine. The driver was arrested for impaired driving.
Thirty-one year-old Jonathan Scott LENNON, of Regina, is charged with:
- Possession of a scheduled substance (cocaine) [CDSA 4(1)];
- Drive while impaired causing bodily harm [CC 320.14(2)]; and
- Exceed 80 mg of alcohol within 2 hours of driving [CC 320.14(1)(B)].
LENNON will make his first appearance in Provincial Court on these charges on June 30, 2020, at 9:30 a.m.
