A 50 year-old Regina male is facing Arson charges in connection with four recent fires which caused damage to property and required the resources of the Regina Fire Department. These fires occurred in late May and the first two weeks of June.
- On May 30, 2020, someone lit fire to a large tree stump in the front yard of a residence in the 2100 block of Francis Street. This fire was not authorized by the owner of the property and firefighter were required to put the fire out.
- On June 3, 2020, at the same residence in the 2100 block of Francis Street, someone lit the garbage bin on fire. The bin was located near to the garage on the property and caused damage to this building. The point of origin of the fire was also very near to a SaskEnergy meter and gas lines. Once again, firefighters were dispatched to handle the fire.
- On June 9, 2020, a male suspect allegedly broke into a vacant house in the 1400 block of Retallack Street. The suspect lit a fire inside the house, which caused extensive damage. Firefighters were required to extinguish the blaze.
- On June 11, 2020, a male suspect lit bushes and shrubs on fire near the corner of Dewdney Avenue and Rae Street. Once again, firefighters were needed to extinguish the fire.
Fifty year-old Rene Gerard HICKEY, of Regina, is facing four charges of Arson, causing damage to property, contrary to section 434 of the Criminal Code. HICKEY made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court on Friday, June 12, 2020.
