Two young persons – a 16 year-old male and a 15 year-old female – are facing several charges including uttering death threats and assault with a weapon after an incident Monday afternoon.
At approximately 3:50 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2020, police were dispatched to the area of Jubilee Avenue and Turgeon Crescent for a report of an adult male and female assaulted and threatened by a male youth with a knife and a female youth. No injuries were reported, but it is alleged the female youth struck the adult female in the face. The suspects ran southbound toward McNab Crescent before police arrived. Officers obtained descriptions of the suspects and conducted an initial area check, with no results. A canine team arrived and started a track, which resulting in finding a 15 year-old female, who was detained for the weapons investigation. The canine officer and dog continued to search for the second suspect. The 16 year-old male suspect was located a short time later and taken into custody without incident. Investigation into this incident resulted in charges against both young persons.
The accused youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The female youth is charged with Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code. She was released on conditions, with a court date of July 13, 2020.
The male youth is charged with:
- Breach of Undertaking [145(4)(a) CC];
- 2 X Assault with a Weapon (knife) [267(a) CC];
- 3 X Uttering Threats [264.1(1)(a) CC];
The male youth made his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2020.
