The Regina Police Service would like to remind the public to be aware of fraudulent activity related to the COVID-19 virus.
In other jurisdictions, there have been reports to police of scammers posing as health care providers and other organizations who are using the COVID-19 virus to fraudulently obtain personal information and financial information. The Regina Police Service has not yet received any reports of these scams occurring locally, but would like to remind the public to be cautious.
Be aware of unsolicited calls, emails and text messages that include medical advice, or requests for payment relating to healthcare. Do not click suspicious links or attachments and do not be pressured into making donations for medical products or research; always verify that a charity is registered and information is valid.
We understand that there is a great deal of uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the COVID-19 virus, and unfortunately, fraudsters are exploiting these emotions to facilitate fraud. We also acknowledge the current situation may make the public more vulnerable to falling for scams.
